2017 Partner of the Year Awards Luncheon

The event took place on June 22, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Alachua County Senior Recreation Center in Gainesville. This would not have been possible without our sponsors and community partners who help make our communities in Alachua, Levy, and Marion Counties better places to live.

R.I.S.E. Participants Share Their Success Storiess

This year’s speakers were R.I.S.E Program participants Taryn Holden, Frederick Brown, Migdalia Cruz, and Taylor Whittier. The R.I.S.E Program assists motivated individuals and families to progress towards economic stability and self-sufficiency via way of employment.

Award Recipients

Alachua County: Greater Duval Neighborhood Association (GDNA)

In July 2015, a group of concerned residents came together to established the Greater Duval Neighborhood Association. Officers were elected and GDNA became a non-profit organization to assist with revitalization efforts and bring hope, opportunity and positive energy to its residents.

With the collaboration of a growing network of city departments and community partners, including CFCAA, GDNA has a five-year strategic plan for the neighborhood to keep it great.

Levy County: Duke Energy

The Central Florida Community Action Agency partners with Duke Energy’s Low Income Weatherization Assistance Program (LIWAP) and Neighborhood Energy Saver (NES) program. Both utilize a community engagement approach to assisting residents reduce their energy usage, learn effective strategies and increase their awareness. Two important aspects of both programs are community engagement and partnerships. Partnerships with local leaders and organizations such as CFCAA are vital to the success of Duke’s community outreach programs.

Marion County: United Way of Marion County Strong Families Initiative

Strong Families is a unique initiative that leverages relationships with more than nine non-profit partners, in collaboration with employers, local colleges, financial institutions and agencies. Strong Families provides families with comprehensive resources, wraparound support and the services they need to reach real and lasting financial stability.

Through this initiative, United Way of Marion County will be partnering with local agencies and serving identified families who can benefit from this effort to increase their financial stability.
