Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSSP)

CFCAA’s Family Self-Sufficiency Program strives to help you

become independent of social and public service assistance.

A case manager is assigned to help you during the process of:

· determining strengths and weaknesses

· assessing needs

· setting goals

· overcoming obstacles

· acquiring education or job training

· attending workshops to improve financial management

· preparing for first-time home-buying

Case managers may provide resources when available such as auto repair, childcare, tuition, and books for education.

The FSSP requires a two-year to support continual progress towards total self-sufficiency.

CFCAA may provide direct assistance and referrals for basic needs, including rental assistance, energy payments, nutrition, transportation, temporary shelter, and more.

Participants must meet eligibility requirements.

Energy Assistance

The energy assistance program may help eligible households maintain heating or cooling utilities.

The mission of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP),  is to assist low-income households, particularly those with the lowest incomes that pay a high proportion of the household income for home energy,  primarily in meeting their home energy needs.

It may provide several types of assistance:

· Home Energy Assistance is a one-time payment benefit towards the household’s energy account. The amount of the benefit is based on the total household income.

· Crisis Assistance  may assist eligible households who are about to have their utilities cut off due to nonpayment, or whose utilities have already been disconnected. The amount is based on need, up to the maximum allowed per household.

· Disaster Relief is offered during inclement weather (extreme heat or freezing weather) when the state has declared a weather emergency. This assistance may include utility payments, air-conditioning units, heaters, fans, and blankets.

· Crisis Assistance can be given:

· If an unexpected financial emergency has caused a household to fall behind in their utility payments.

· If a medical condition of a household member requires electricity  to avoid a life-threatening situation.

· If the outside temperature is excessively high or low, and there is an elderly or disabled person in the household, or a very young child.

TO APPLY: Call any of our offices M - F, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. (closed between noon and 1 p.m.) to schedule an appointment with a case manager.
